Match Preview
At 41 years of age, Cristiano Ronaldo has been selected by Portugal's new head coach, Jorge Jesus, for this weekend's Nations League matches. Ronaldo has scored 146 goals for Portugal and will aim to add to his tally in the home match against Wales. The Portuguese team lost to Spain in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup this summer. Prior to that, the team recorded victories over Croatia (2–1) and Uzbekistan (5–0), as well as a goalless draw against Colombia.
Wales did not participate in the World Cup, making this the team's first official match of 2026. During the summer, Wales played two friendlies, losing 1–2 to Romania and drawing 1–1 with Ghana. Wales has scored in each of its last seven matches, demonstrating strong attacking form; the last time the team failed to find the net was in an away game against Austria (0–3) on October 9, 2025.
Prediction for Portugal - Wales
Reigning Nations League champions Portugal are the clear favorites to beat Wales. Portugal has a new manager in Jorge Jesus, who will be keen to make a strong start to his tenure at the helm of the team. Led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal should win at home on Thursday. Since the odds for a home win are low, my prediction is that Portugal will be leading at halftime.
Prediction: HT 1
